Parvez's family still hasn't found his grave

Md. Sabuj Bepari, the father of Shaheed Parvez in the July 2024 mass uprising, has not yet found the grave of his son. He cannot even say the exact day and date of his death.

However, he heard that his only son Parvez was buried in the Martyred Intellectuals Cemetery. Sabuj lost his job while searching for his son's body. Currently, he is making a living by selling tea in a small shop.

Shahid Parvez's village home is in Bar Hatia village of Fatehpur East Union, Matlab North, Chandpur. 23-year-old Parvez lived in Badda area of Dhaka for a long time. He worked as a designer in a furniture shop there. Shahid Parvez did not get his mother's affection since childhood. Due to the lack of communication with his father, his mother got married elsewhere. His grandmother raised him.

Even now, whenever the topic of martyr Parvez comes up, grandmother Mafia Begum breaks down in tears. She was angry and could not see her grandson's death. Even when she went to look for the body, she could not find it. While crying, she kept saying only 'brother, brother'. When asked, 70-year-old Mafia Begum said, 'My brother (Parvez) is gone. Who will look for me now? I want the death penalty for those who killed my grandson.'

Saying that Shaheed Parvez was the only source of income for the family, his father Sabuj Bepari said, "I used to work on a launch for a small salary. I couldn't devote time to my job while searching for Parvez's body and contacting the administration with all the documents after his martyrdom. As a result, I lost my job and am now unemployed."

Sabuj Bepari said, "I have married my eldest daughter Nupur. My middle daughter is studying at Jhumur College. My younger daughter Khadija is in seventh grade. I am living a difficult life with my mother, wife, and two daughters. Since I don't have a job, I somehow manage to support myself by selling tea at a small tong shop next to my house."

Sabuj Bepari, who received 5 lakh taka from the July Foundation, said that out of that money, he spent it on his eldest daughter Nupur's wedding. He had debts while unemployed, and paid them off. He also said that he spent it on traveling to different places to provide information about his son's death.

Regarding martyr Parvez, Sabuj said, "During the movement in Dhaka in July, I received news on July 19 that my son Parvez was missing. Later, I went to Dhaka to search for my son. After much searching, I went to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital on July 21. When I went there, I heard that eight bodies had been sent to Anjuman Mufidul Islam.

From there I went to the Anjuman Mufidul Islam office. After going there, I was told to go to the Martyr Intellectual Graveyard. When I went to the Martyr Intellectual Graveyard, I showed my son's picture. After looking at the picture, the people at the graveyard said that your son's body was buried here. However, it cannot be said specifically which grave is your son's.

Sabuj Bepari also said, "Since then, I have been waiting for my child. I have not seen my son's body till today. I have not been able to identify the grave. I am spending my days in this pain. I want justice for the murder of my child. I am demanding the maximum punishment, the death penalty."
