Sajal's body was burned after being shot dead.

August 5. The anti-fascist Sheikh Hasina movement was at its peak. That afternoon, the police and riot police opened fire indiscriminately on the protesters in Savar. Not only that, the police committed a heinous act of burning the bodies of several people after killing them. Sajal was one of them.

Father Khalilur Rahman reminisced and said, "Sajal had a calm nature since childhood. Along with studying, he would think about the good and bad of people. He would also talk about justice and human rights. He was good at studying. And after just two years, he would graduate as a textile engineer. Before that, my father passed away."

Shaheed Sajal's mother Shahina Begum asked in a tearful voice, "Why did they shoot and burn my father? What was my Sajal's fault? Why did they empty my chest?" The boy's burnt body makes me cry all the time.

Sajal's father Khalilur Rahman also said that when he called his son on the morning of August 5, he said, "Don't worry. I'm in the procession. I'll return home in the afternoon." That was the last thing he said to him. I called him repeatedly before noon, after noon, and until night, but I couldn't reach him. The phone seemed to be switched off. I searched a lot but couldn't find him, and I became disappointed. The sky became heavy with the tears of Sajal's mother.

He said, "I learned from people and through various media that a body car had been set on fire in Savar. I went to look for Sajal in a hurry. When I went there, I saw that there was no way to identify the body. At one point, I saw a half-burnt body that looked like my son lying face down. Most of the head and back were burned. An ID card was hanging around his neck. When I got closer, I saw my Sajal's body. The ID card around his neck was also his. Seeing my son's burnt body, the sky fell on my head. At that time, I could not control myself anymore.

Shaheed Sajal's mother Shahina Begum said, Sajal was a calm-natured boy. Sometimes, during conversations, he would say, "I will become an engineer and come out first. I will fulfill all your demands, God willing." When he came to visit his village home in Shyampur, Saghata Upazila, Sajal would not have time to stay at home. He would spend the whole day wandering from house to house in the neighborhood. When he came home, he would run to his grandparents' house first.

When people visited Shaheed Sajal's house last Friday morning, they remembered him in various ways. Sajal's great aunt Ginni Begum said, "Oh, the boy was so good. His parents had worked hard to educate him, hoping that he would become an engineer. That hope was not fulfilled."

Asatan Begum, the wife of Sajal's grandfather's younger brother, said, "Sajal would check on us whenever he came home. He would talk about everything, what we were doing, what we were eating. When he came home from Dhaka, he would come to us before the family members and ask us about our good and bad things," said Shaheed Sajal's cousin Lovely Begum.

Villagers said that many people, including leaders of various political parties and administration officials, occasionally come to inquire about the situation and visit the grave.

It is worth noting that Sajal was shot dead by police while participating in a procession in Bypile, Savar. After being shot, his car was set on fire. After a day of searching in various hospitals, he was found on the road in Bypile, shot and burned.

Sajal was a second-year student of BSc-in Textile Engineering at Dhaka City University. Her parents hoped to make her a textile engineer. Her father, Khalilur Rahman, works in a private company. Her mother, Shahina Begum, is a housewife. Her parents married Sajjad Hossain Sajal while she was still studying out of curiosity. Shahid Sajal has a daughter. Her name is Adiba. She is one year and two months old. She doesn't understand anything. She just stares blankly.

His wife, Sajia Khatun, showed her daughter Adiba and said in a tearful voice, "I don't know how to raise a fatherless girl, how to make her a human being. We will demand from the government that they take responsibility for Adiba and provide for her education."

On August 6, the body of Shaheed Sajal was buried in the courtyard of his home in Shyampur village of Muktinagar Union in Saghata Upazila of Gaibandha. Ahsan Habib, Chairman of Muktinagar Union Parishad, said that his parents had many dreams about Sajal. Shaheed Sajal is the pride of this area. The people of the area will remember him for the rest of their lives.

Meanwhile, on December 16, the upazila administration unveiled a plaque naming a road in Bonarpara, the Saghata Upazila headquarters, after Shaheed Sajal. Shaheed Sajal's father and mother were present at the event.

Sajal's mother told this reporter, "We want the status of a martyr for our son as a state." She demanded that the memories of the heroes of the mass uprising be included in the textbook. Saghata Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ishaq Ali said, "Martyr Sajal was a symbol of the family's hopes and aspirations. We are keeping track of his family members."
